Hosting competition cancelled
I pride myself on honesty and transparency with this blog. As you may know I have been running a competition for the last couple of weeks in which you could win free website hosting for a year. Judging from the number of entries I have decide to cancel the competition as there was only 1 entry which was by The Affiliate Post.
Obviously I will think of a way to compensate The Affiliate Post in the next couple of days. Also, I am working on some really exciting new competitions for the near future as well some other new developments which I can’t go into right now! Stay tuned

As far as compensation goes, I would ordinarily say forget about it but I could actually do with your help on something. I can make it mutually benficial.

Posted on July 12th, 2008 at 9:43 pm@ John: Sorry to hear about the contest going wrong! It’s a shame. I know the feeling though as I myself have tried to give away THOUSANDS of dollars worth of stuff… to my surprise… not the response I REALLY wanted.
I did, have one contest that didn’t do well at all… in fact, it had ZERO entries… it was my “Free Web Hosting” contest. In it, I simply asked for some ideas… albeit creative ones… on how to give away a ticket to to a conference being held by “An Event Apart”… you know… it’s for web designers and such.
Anyway, I got zero replies to that one. then I offered to do a tweak a week by custom building themes for the winners. I got ONE person who actually took the time to stumble it (part of the deal). However, I got 127 e-mails and 40 comments about it. Not one person did EVERYTHING I asked for in return for an entry.
So I picked a winner anyway. Turns out that not being in English meant double the work… double the time… supper long response times due to being 7 hours ahead of my time zone… and then to ad to it all… the winner simply wanted me to design what he wanted… and that my friend was not the deal.
The deal was that I would review their materials and provide them with something I feel would be better on many level than what was pre-existing… any way… I know I’m rambling, but I just wanted you to know that it’s not something to get down about.
Damn, I still have people asking me about tweaking their themes… or what happened to the winners.. or whatever! No sir… you won’t find me wasting my time and money on folks who don’t want to do 45 seconds worth of work to earn it.
That said… keep that head up, but I am a bit curious. What is your traffic like here. How may visits a day are you getting and what not. That might help figure out why it didn’t get the response you’re looking for.
ThePissBiscuit.com is hovering at about 350 visits a day. Not great, but also a good reason why some of my contests don’t work out as planned. We need numbers and lots of them! So throw up some site stats and let’s see what you’re working with.

@ PB: Yeah man, I feel you there. I know the one person that did stumble you and she is still waiting on her tweak. I know the fisrt one took a lot out of you but I promise this one will be a lot easier. ie not high maintenance and much more free reign to show off your skills!
@ All: It seems that giving stuff away is hard to do. Who’d have thought it right? Not in terms of competition, but I did write a post about one great affiliate program and one really piss poor one. Needless to say that I had a lot more signups on the shit program!!! People I tell you!!!
