May 28th, 2008Telkom has truly astounded me! After having written about my decison to get ADSL, I have received my ADSL line and router within 24 hours of making the application. I really couldn’t believe it, especially since I have been hearing about the horror stories of some people waiting months to have their line provisioned for ADSL.
I think I must have just been extremely lucky! I won’t go as far as to say that I am suddenly a big fan of Telkom’s but I will say that in my eyes they have certainly improved their image slightly. I’m still paying an excessively high line rental but atleast now I don’t feel totally neglected be them, as some people have been!
What do you think? Does Telkom deserve some recognition for a job well done? Or was I just one of the lucky minority? Let me know…

I have been keeping an eye on the way in which the international media has been portraying this crisis…and yes, it IS a crisis. CNN has shown some really chilling footage of what has been going on. I happened to tune in as they were showing a person dying while Police officers stand by and watch. Now this is just unacceptable!
We cannot let this continue, I understand some of the underlying problems and causes, and most of them are political, it is unnecessary to take out our frustrations with government on innocent people.
These people have come to South Africa to seek a place of peace and opportunity, fleeing from wars and dictators and we treat them like this! Please, we must end the violence.
If it doesn’t end soon, we could see serious financial, political and social repercussions. I love this country and I can only hope that sanity will return soon.

I have finally decided to go ahead and get ADSL. I’ve been using Vodacom 3G since it was launched a couple years ago. All the while I have been hoping that prices would drop from Telkom’s side. Now that Neotel has launched their consumer offering and have played their cards, I have made the decision to get ADSL because Neotel isn’t offering what I need and while I’m happy that there are more options available, I can’t wait any longer for a decent fixed line broadband connection.
If you are using Telkom ADSL, why not let me know what your experience has been?

I recently came across an old post by Seth Godin in which he lets his readers know that he doesn’t like having comments on his blog and therefore doesn’t have that feature enabled. Obviously it’s his blog and he can do whatever he wants with it, but this lead me to ask the question, why do you comment on blogs? What makes you go to all the effort of filling in your name and email address and then typing out a message?
Obviously, I am all for comments and I’m going to tell you why… If you haven’t noticed already, I am quite enthusiastic about the collaborative nature of blogging and the internet in general. I enjoy the fact that when I write a post, I get feedback from the reader… I’m giving my opinion and so I welcome you to give your opinion. If you weren’t able to comment on what someone has written in a blog, wouldn’t you feel a little bit unappreciated?
Anyway, I just though I would share this question with you and hopefully you will let me know your opinion by adding a comment
I was reading this post and I totally agree that there is absolutely nothing to stop anyone from starting their own little business, even if it is part-time. I strongly believe that with enough perseverance and hard work, any business venture can be successful.
If you have a dream to be financially independent and really want it bad enough… then to my mind there is nothing standing in your way to making that dream a reality. One of the main purposes of my blog is to help you to reach that dream. I’m passionate about helping others to become successful and I believe that business is not always about competition. We can collaborate to create new vale for ourselves as well as others.
The internet is the perfect medium to achieve your financial goals because of the pure scope that can be achieved! You can create a global business that has the potential to reach millions of people and you can do that in minutes. Now, that doesn’t mean that your success is going to be immediate! It is going to take time and some seriously hard work… That to me is the biggest misconception that people have about the internet. Let me just say this right now…get rich quick doesn’t exist!
With that said, if you focus on filling a need and providing value in everything you do, whether it is value for yourself (enjoying what you do) or value for the client (providing a great product or service), you will succeed! Why? Because people are smart….they can tell when you are sincere and not out to just make a quick buck.
I hope that these few words of advice are helpful and that maybe you become motivated to get up and go start something…Change the world!
